Good food, prices make Blue Mountain Beach’s Marie’s Bistro a hit

BLUE MOUNTAIN BEACH — We travel to the 30A area of South Walton quite often, but this was the first time that we had visited Marie’s Bistro.

It is on the north side of 30A between County Road 83 and Blue Mountain Road in Blue Mountain Plaza.

The food

Marie’s offers a nice selection of appetizers; including edamame, seaweed, several seafood choices, eggrolls, cheese sticks with marinara and their signature dips of humus and tomato with cheese, Kalamata olives and olive oil.

We opted to forego the appetizers because we definitely knew that we wanted to have dessert. So, I chose the soup and my guest the salad to begin our meal.

The soup of the day was chicken and corn Florentine. The broth was light and flavorful, and the soup was chocked full of chicken and corn.

The bistro salad was composed of mixed greens and tomato, carrots and cucumbers served with a refreshing garlic and basil vinaigrette.

The soup and salad are served with a basket of delicious, hot bread.

Other salads include cucumber, Mediterranean and Caesar.

If you would like to make one of these salads a meal, they offer chicken, sliced beef, shrimp and seared tuna or smoked salmon as toppers.

Marie’s offers specials each week that feature local, fresh ingredients, so make sure you ask or check the board.

My choice was the Snapper Marie; sautéed red snapper was topped with shrimp in a lemon garlic wine sauce. It was served with rice pilaf and a broccoli, squash, carrot medley.

It was delicious. The snapper was fresh and perfectly cooked, and I ate every bite.

My guest chose the special. Penne pasta was covered with a lovely sauce and plenty of parmesan cheese and topped with a perfectly grilled grouper filet.

Other entrees include shrimp and grits; a Mediterranean mixed grill, beef, sausage and Kofta with hummus and shrimp and crab cakes.

Chef Tran offers three specialties: Vietnamese style shaken beef, wasabi glazed tuna and sweet chili chicken and shrimp.

We did not take advantage of the sushi that is offered at Marie’s on this visit, but we do hope to visit again to do so. They offer more than 30 types.

Marie’s also offers light entrees: fish tacos, shrimp poboy, vegetables primavera, teriyaki chicken sandwich and a bistro burger.

Marie’s family-style meals, your choice of either Italian or seafood, are a good value.

Dessert is a definite when it come s to a meal at Marie’s. The list is long and all are homemade.

The evening of our visit, some of the choices included carrot cake, Key lime pie, several different cheesecakes, baklava and a wild berry cake.

Our choices were the wild berry cake and chocolate swirl cheesecake.

The wild berry was a delicate yellow cake with a blueberry glaze on one side and fresh strawberries on the other, served with whipped cream

The cheesecake was smooth and delicious.

With a good cup of coffee, these desserts were the perfect way to end a good meal.

The atmosphere

Friendly and relaxed are terms best used to describe Marie’s Bistro.

From the moment you walk in until you leave, you feel that the staff is glad that you stopped by and would love for you to come again.

The service

The staff is friendly and knowledgeable.

A final taste

With generous servings of good food and reasonable prices, Marie’s Bistro is a hit in South Walton County.
